March Dog Walking Challenge – Dementia UK – Walking to Raise Awareness

We are a family run homecare company in Derby and Leicestershire and we work with people who have dementia. These people include clients and family/friends of our team.

To raise awareness, Michelle, Donna and I have taken up the @dementiaUK March DOG walking Challenge. It is so important to support those people who look after a loved one with dementia and really understand what their day-to-day lives entail when looking after family members who have dementia.

Families and friends can often feel stuck and unaware of how to manage their loved ones’ care at home. This can be frightening. They still want them to stay at home as long as possible before the dementia is unmanageable.

So many people start down the route of looking at care homes for their loved ones, not knowing they can safely remain at home in the early stages of dementia.

Wellbeing Homecare Services look after people with various kinds of dementia, including Alzheimers. We provide daily visits in their own home and help with medication, personal care, food preparation and companionship. This is so that family and friends can have some rest and still have their own life and know that their loved one is getting the best care.

We will be walking our Border Collie, Sunny and Labrador George every day in March knowing people are becoming more aware of dementia and care can be provided at home. The walk will also help us with thinking of memories of our grandmother who had Alzheimers.

If you would like help with someone you care about, who needs extra support in the home, please find out more and get in touch with one of the team.
