Many of the phone calls we take are from people hoping that Wellbeing Homecare Services can provide the care and companionship needed to enable a loved one, friend or relative, stay in their own home.
Just to help you get your head around this – if you’re sat at home, probably with the TV on, just look around you. The chances are you’re surrounded by treasures and memories – these are the special things that make your home so precious. You’re probably looking at a photograph and that photograph tells a story, it takes you back to a place and time that will forever be imprinted in your mind. You may have a pet to keep you company and your favourite meal is in the fridge. You’re sat on your favourite comfortable armchair, probably watching your favourite tv programme and thinking about getting up to make a cup of tea.
Does that sound familiar? But are you probably struggling a little bit to get up and make that cup of tea? Is it getting more difficult to prepare your next meal and ‘did you forget to take your medication this morning?’ This is where we can help – but in lots more ways. Even taking you to an appointment, to the hairdressers or for a visit to the garden centre – perhaps a cheeky Latte in the café.
We know that we are probably making this sound easy and that the initial phone call is far from that. We often hear anxiety in the voice of the caller, understandably so, but we exchange names and a few details and soon the conversation starts to flow. It takes immense courage to make that initial call – it’s not been without a lot of deliberation and conversations probably with other family members. It’s a huge step to take, life changing in fact but so rewarding and, in the main, our service users say they wonder how they ever managed without Wellbeing in their lives.
So often the caller is looking for help for a parent who is absolutely insistent that they’re ‘fine as they are’ and they really don’t want strangers coming into their homes. But Wellbeing Homecare Services is a small, friendly family run company and our ladies aren’t strangers for long – we soon become friends who don’t just provide personal care and prepare meals but provide companionship and bring fun and laughter into their lives.
